Hand Dyed Tea Towels

Summer Trend: Tie Dye

Quarantine has really brought out our inner hippie side with all this tie dye, am I right??? I wanted to do a little something “home-based” with this classic childhood craft - what better than a kitchen tea towel? With various dyes, methods and colors, I have managed to come up with a fool proof system for an AMAZING looking end product! Ladies and gents, I give you, our tie dye tea towels!

Various Methods:

  1. Tie Dye Kit - The blue and the green tea towels were made using this dye method! Not going to lie, Amazon for the win on this one…this kit comes with 32 amazing colors, rubber bands, gloves and protective mats! A real one stop shop for all things tie dye DIY! The colors are super saturated and and produce a really bright finished product!

  2. Tie Dye Kit + Bleach - The sherbert colored ones were made using this two step method! The reds and oranges were just too bright for my liking so after they were set with the tie dye kit colors I mixed 1 part bleach with 4 parts water and let the towels soak for about 10 mins (flipping 1/2 way through) - the result was exactly what i was looking for! A super soft mix of pinks and oranges!

  3. Hibiscus Tea Stain - Natural dyes always turn out so soft and delicate! Plus, it’s a great way to use up all those forgotten about tea in the pantry! The pink towels are by far my favorite and I can’t wait to make more as soon as i get some more hibiscus tea! Simply brew tea per directions and lightly drizzle tea over the tied up towels! Let them sit overnight and set with vinegar to ensure the color sticks after washes!

  4. Irish Tea Stain - same as the hibiscus tea above, just a brown outcome! Very vintage feel and totally neutral!
