How to: Painting Pumpkins 101
Painting Pumpkins 101
Ever want to extend the life of your pumpkins? Painting them is a great way to add longevity to these festive finds throughout seasonal changes!
For our Thanksgiving table I wanted to take it a little off-beat. I chose pinks, oranges and black with a little hint of succulent green as our color palette but our white pumpkins lost a little of their luster over the last few months so I decided to give them a little TLC.
Supplies: Michaels - I had to mix a few colors to get this pretty mauve color but I really wanted to match it to the flowers so the extra time and effort of mixing my own color was worth it! Overall, it was pretty easy to achieve this custom pumpkin look! Once I nailed down a solid color, I took a small paintbrush and carefully painted around the stem and then painted one coat over the entire pumpkin, following the existing grooves. After about 3 coats they looked great! Easy as that!
Craft Tip: Make sure you really let them dry between coats or you will just take off the previous coat. I wanted a little bit of the white pumpkin to show through…going for a handcrafted #anthropologie look - but if you want a more solid pumpkin, I think 4 coats would do the trick!
Here’s how they turned out on the table!
